The Texas Water Project is an experiment in storytelling by students in The Photographic Project course at Texas State University. In the fall and spring of the 2023-2024 school year, students were asked to explore the theme of water in Texas. The methods and approaches were left open-ended, though they were required to make new pictures, create/find supplemental material, and build a webpage.

Through brainstorming and research around water issues/histories/experiences, each student found a particular curiosity and made work to reflect this interest. Guiding questions ranged from such things as “How can water calm the mind/body?“ to “What does water use say about capitalism in our society and how does it dictate priority?“ to “What would it mean if people didn’t have access to public water spaces?”
