           Bridwell Pond

Fayette County is a beautiful historic county in Texas. The region is largely rural and driven by an agricultural economy, one in which a lot of people raise their own crops as well as animals. My grandma is one of those people, she raises her own cattle as well as donkeys and horses. My grandma grew up farming and ranching and continues what she learned as a kid to now as an adult living on a ranch.  She lives on this beautiful property with fields of green grass and a gorgeous pond that sits in La Grange Texas. The pond is filled with gorgeous blue water that fills the entire pond. The memories that fill my head of the days we fished in that big pond with our family are something special to me. Since those days in the early 2000’s, to now in 2023 the pond water has decreased as well as the grass that filled her property for miles is now dead. It’s sad to see this once magnificent property struggle to stay afloat because of the intense drought we are going through. My grandma takes care of the whole property on her own at 78 years old, which was already hard in itself but since the drought it has been even more difficult for her to maintain. The drought has made it difficult and increasingly expensive for her to feed her animals and keep them hydrated. My grandma takes pride in caring for the land. She wakes up early to feed the animals as well as take care of the land and make sure everything is in shape because she will one day pass on this land to one of the grandchildren so it stays in our family.
